Youth Exchange Blog: "I have a dream" in Istanbul, TÜRKIYE by Keit

Hi! I’m Keit, a 19 years old psychology student from Estonia, and in July 2025 I took part in my first Erasmus+ youth exchange “I Have a Dream”, which took place near Istanbul, Türkiye.
The project focused on disability awareness, inclusion and empathy. As someone studying psychology, these themes felt especially relevant and important. During the exchange, we learned about both visible and invisible disabilities and how everyday environments or attitudes can create barriers. The activities weren’t theoretical. They were hands-on and reflective. We had silent lunches, blind walks, creative tasks, sitting volleyball and more. These small but powerful exercises helped me better understand how different the world can look depending on your abilities.
Throughout the days, I felt that my empathy and awareness genuinely grew. I also developed confidence in communication, teamwork and intercultural cooperation, things that matter both in personal life and in my future profession.
The group was very diverse, with participants from across Europe and beyond, and our trainer created a space that was both safe and engaging. I really appreciated how balanced the whole program was. We learned a lot, but also had time to enjoy the area, connect with each other and even explore Istanbul on our day off.
To be honest, I didn’t expect my first Erasmus+ project to be this meaningful. I’m really grateful I got to be part of it, for the experience, the people and everything I learned along the way.
